About Volunteering

South Whidbey at Home volunteers can be people of any age who don’t mind helping an older neighbor. They are generous people who are happy to share their time and skills. They also understand the concept of “paying it forward” and want to ensure that SW@Home will be there for them whenever—if ever—they (or their older family members) need it.

What does a SW@Home volunteer do?
We know that our members are likely to need help with minor home repairs, emergency pet care, a ride to church, meditation circle, or a health professional, help in the garden, assistance with new technology, a neighborly visit, or a daily phone check in. Our application asks the kinds of services you’re willing and able to offer. We expect most requests would take less than two hours to fulfill.

But what else would you like to offer? Perhaps you like to read aloud, do an errand, or play a musical instrument? If you have a skill or talent that’s not listed, let us know. We’re open to suggestions that fall within our mission parameters. Our volunteers will not be doing health-related or personal-care work.

When do SW@Home volunteers work? That’s up to you. You tell us when you’re available and the days or times of day you prefer to volunteer. If a member request comes in that seems to fit your preferences, we’ll ask by phone or email (your choice) if you’re willing or able to do it. You’ll confirm with the member and let us know afterward if you encountered any problems. Easy.

All SW@Home volunteers are vetted for the safety of our members and go through a short training session.
